Ajax wonderkid Amourricho van Axel Dongen – who was linked with a move to Manchester United and previously said he would be ‘eternally grateful’ to Erik ten Hag – ends speculation surrounding his future by penning a new contract until 2027
- Erik ten Hag handed Amourricho van Axel Dongen a debut when he was at Ajax
- The winger is extremely highly-rated and was linked with a move to Man United
- Van Axel Dongen has now penned a new four-year deal which runs until 2027
Ajax wonderkid Amourricho van Axel Dongen has signed a new contract at the club, despite speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The left-winger, 18, had made his first team debut under Erik ten Hag during his spell in charge of the Dutch giants.
After joining the club’s youth academy in 2013, Van Axel Dongen worked his way up and was handed the Abedelhak Nouri trophy – the award given to the club’s best young talent.
Then during the 2021-22 season, Ten Hag handed him his first Ajax appearance at the age of 17 against BVV Barendrecht in a KNVB Cup game.
He also made his Eredivisie debut later that season, making three appearances in total in all competitions.

Ten Hag was notorious for developing a string of top young players while at the club, including Frenkie De Jong and Donny van de Beek and Van Axel Dongen had previously expressed an interest in working with the United boss again, fuelling speculation about his future.
‘I will remain eternally grateful to him for giving me the opportunity as a young player to play football with players like Antony and Dusan Tadic, he told Dutch outlet Voetbal Zone in September 2022.
‘I think it’s great to see that things are going a bit better with Manchester United; I really wish him that.
‘Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to speak to him since his transfer to United, but who knows, our paths may cross in the future.’
Unfortunately, the attacker struggled with injury this season and has only featured for Jong Ajax – the club’s second team – making 14 appearances in total.
Nevertheless, Ajax showed significant faith by handing him a new contract, after his previous deal was set to expire this summer.

The Mirror reported how United were monitoring the situation, but Ajax have now secured the future of the highly-rated Van Axel Dongen until 2027.
They confirmed the news in a statement which read: ‘Ajax and Amourricho van Axel Dongen have reached an agreement on the extension of his contact, which ran until June 30, 2023.
‘The new contract of the 18-year-old attacker, who will play using the name Amourricho from now on, runs until June 30, 2027.
‘After the summer break, he will join the Ajax 1 squad.’
