Ajax starlets dominate as Holland win Under 17 European Championship with 4-2 victory over Italy

Holland have continued their patch of resurgence by winning the Under 17 European Championship with a 4-2 final victory against Italy.
The Oranje starlets surged to the final with a string of impressive performances, and put Italy to the sword in a six-goal thriller.
Ajax youngsters formed the core of the side, with six in the starting XI, showing a recurring theme of the Amsterdam based club producing some of the country’s finest players.

Over the past 12 months the football world has been treated to the fruits of Ajax’s labour, with the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek flourishing on the European stage.
Ajax captured the imagination by blazing through to the latter stages of the Champions League, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus before being eliminated in the final moments by Tottenham in the semi-final stage.
With the Ajax squad set to be pulled apart this summer as players are snapped up, the progress of the Holland Under 17s shows the production line is still very much in full flow.
In winning the tournament Holland retained the trophy they won a year ago – again defeating Italy inside Rotherham’s AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen was also left jumping for joy after hitting the back of the net
Highly rated Liverpool defender Ki-jana Hoever featured and almost scored with a free-kick
Memphis Depay took to Twitter to pay tribute to the next generation of Holland stars
Twelve months on and Holland were at it again, with Sontje Hansen of Ajax opened the scoring for the Dutch.
A free-kick was then curled onto the post from Liverpool’s highly rated Ki-Jana Hoever, where the rebound was hastily finished off by Naoufal Bannis on the rebound.
Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen scored the third for the men in orange, but it was 15-year-old Naci Unuvar of Ajax who grabbed the headlines with the match winner after coming on from the bench.
Unuvar is now the first 15-year-old to have scored a goal in the final of an Under 17 European Championship.
A brace from Italy’s Lorenzo Colombo restored some dignity for the Azzurri but could not steer them to glory.
