Rob Kearney remains major doubt for Argentina as Leavy, Arnold and Ryan sit out training

Rob Kearney remains a major doubt for Ireland’s clash against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

The full-back sat out training Carton House today, which is generally an indication that a player won’t feature in the weekend’s coming game.

Dan Leavy, Sammy Arnold and John Ryan, who travelled to South Africa with their provinces last weekend, also didn’t take part in the session after their delayed return to camp.

“Rob was working with the physios today,” scrum coach Greg Feek said.

“We will see how he goes but it is just a case of getting there. We will have our reviews this afternoon and see how he comes that. We will wait and see how he comes through. He was doing stuff with the medics and is on his return (to play).

“Hopefully things will progress for him. Firstly Rob Kearney is Rob Kearney, he’s a good man to have in the team, offers a lot of experience. In saying that we have good depth in the squad.

“This series is all about that, testing our depth in the squad, making sure that people can slot in and things can carry on.

“He’s probably in the middle 50pc. Everyone else is tipping away.”

Having trained last week, Conor Murray is not in Carton House with the squad but he remains in with a chance of featuring against the All Blacks on November 17.

“Yeah, he’s not in camp,” Feek confirmed.

“Again it’s another one that we’re just monitoring and I’m still getting up to speed with all that as well. It’s something that obviously not being here this week, they’re freshening him up and it is just trying to tick some boxes to get back in the frame.

“We already have three half-backs there so there’s no point in carrying one more.

“It’s still the same as it has been at this stage.”
