League legend Mark Geyer says ‘all bets are off’ in revamped comp and no draw is easy

Tune into our new show Fox League Live on Channel 502 Monday to Thursday at 6.30pm and on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 5pm.

Mark Geyer doesn’t subscribe to the theory that some teams have easier draws than others and believes that all bets are off in the 2020 Telstra Premiership race.

Roosters supremo Nick Politis has been blowing up about the Roosters getting a raw deal in the revamped 20 round draw, but Geyer believes every game is going to be tough.

Abdo: We need to understand the facts

NRL: Interim NRL Chief Executive Andrew Abdo says the Cody Walker situation will be resolved diligently and swiftly.

“Everyone is going to have their opinion on the draw and who is good and bad, who’s ugly, who’s winners, who’s losers,” Geyer said on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with MG.

“The cold hard facts are you have got to beat every team in this competition and some teams you’ve got to beat twice.

“I think that is what a lot of people are going on if their team has a bad draw or good draw it is the calibre of team they have got to play twice.

“But all bets are off in this new season. After you come out of quarantine. I don’t think there is any sure bet in the competition.

“You can’t put a line through anybody.”

Interim NRL CEO Andrew Abdo believes the 2020 season will be harder to win and mean more to the eventual champions given the adversity the game has faced.

“If you take into account the ebbs and flows of form and injuries one thing remains in common, this will be a tough competition for all 16 teams,” Abdo said.

“I think this year will mean more than other years given all we have been through to get the game back up and running.”

Geyer backed up Abdo’s sentiments by suggesting the 2020 Premiership winner will be remembered more than most other great teams.

“2020 is going to be spoken about for 100 years to come or 1000 years to come.

“Guess what the team that wins it will be spoken about for 1000 years to come as well, so there is a lot at stake.”
