Mercedes ace Lewis Hamilton has parted ways with his performance coach Angela Cullen after seven years together. And Silver Arrows boss Toto Wolff has shone light on the situation by suggesting the split was down to the seven-time F1 world champion.
“It was no surprise to us because Hamilton had been looking for change for a while,” Wolff told Sky Sports.
Wolff then told other reporters: “Angela was part of the gang for a long time. I think in every team, whether that is his close circle, or also in the wider group, this is not a static situation that you can freeze, because we all develop as people, we develop as an organisation and if things don’t work out anymore, then we need to be honest about it and then bring change.
“Angela will always be a mascot of the team. She’s the only one who has a louder voice than a starting car. But, you know, if this is what he decides, we will always absolutely support him, whatever direct direction he wants to take.”

Cullen first linked up with Hamilton at the Australian Grand Prix in 2016, with the duo since being seen alongside each other throughout F1 weekends. But on Friday, Hamilton took to Instagram to announce the split.
“For the last seven years @cullen_angela has been by my side, pushing me to be the best version of myself,” he wrote. “I am a stronger athlete and a better person because of her. So today I hope you’ll join me in wishing her the very best as she takes her next steps to pursue her dreams. Thank you for everything Ang, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.”
