Tight end — the weakest position in fantasy this year. It may be a stretch to say that things have been worse here than they have been at kicker, but it’s pretty close. Too many top-tier guys got hurt at the start of the season, and that impacted depth at the already-thin position. Now, with some of those guys back (Greg Olsen, Evan Engram) and players like Jimmy Graham and Jared Cook coming off bye weeks, the position is a bit deeper. And that’s good news, especially in PPR leagues, where our Week 8 TE rankings actually look, dare we say, deep.
Cook’s return brings back one of the high-volume producers at the position, so he cracks the top 10 in our rankings. The expected return of an injured Rob Gronkowski — in a solid matchup against the Bills — also bolsters the ranks, so that’s a positive for the position. In fact, this may be the strongest that TE has been since the very start of the season.
Week 8 Standard Rankings:
Quarterback | Running Back | Wide Receiver | Tight End | D/ST | Kicker
There are some solid streamers this week, too. Ben Watson (Saints @ Vikings), Ricky Seals-Jones (Cardinals vs. 49ers), and Jeff Heuerman (Broncos @ Chiefs) all stand out as good value pickups. The only one that may not see a high volume of catches is Heuerman, but last time out against the Chiefs, he had 9.7 PPR points, so he’s a worth a shot.
