Mexico City is scheduled to host an NFL game this season, and league officials and Azteca Stadium are taking no chances on the turf creating a debacle like last year.
Last year’s scheduled Week 11 game in Mexico City between the Chiefs and Rams was moved to Los Angeles because of the poor condition of the new hybrid playing surface.
Work crews began replacing that surface with turf last month, and according to specialist Renato Luis Lauretti of World Sports Turf, the contractor involved, the field is finished and the NFL has given its approval.
“NFL testing the Stadium Azteca field … Everything approved and it can only get better,” Lauretti tweeted Monday.
