After decommitment from Kentucky, hoops recruit D.J. Jeffries picks Memphis, Penny Hardaway

One of coach Penny Hardaway's top recruiting priorities in the class of 2019 is headed to Memphis.

Olive Branch, Mississippi, star D.J. Jeffries, the No. 47 overall player in 247Sports' class of 2019 composite rankings, committed to the Tigers on Saturday, ending a whirlwind recruitment that included a decommitment from Kentucky and late pushes by Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama.

Jeffries played for Hardaway's Team Penny AAU club in 2017 and reneged on his commitment to Kentucky in July. He is the only recruit to decommit from the Wildcats during coach John Calipari's tenure.

The versatile 6-foot-7 wing is a skilled player around the basket, and will likely be used at multiple positions for the Tigers next season. ESPN rates Jeffries as a five-star recruit, and the No. 21 overall prospect in the country. He is considered a 4-star recruit by Rivals and 247 Sports.
