NBA

The reigning NBA rookie of the year, Simmons played 43 and 34 minutes in the 76ers’ first two games of the season.

They lost their opener in Boston on Tuesday before Simmons produced a triple-double in their home win against Chicago on Thursday.

He scored 13 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocked shots and it was the first time in the history of the franchise a player posted a triple-double in their opening home game of the season.

Fans were disappointed to see Simmons heading down the tunnel.

“Ben Simmons is out with back stiffness” is not what I wanted to hear when I turned on the Sixers game tonight

.@BenSimmons25 is experiencing some back tightness and will not return.

The primary ball handling duties have been shared by @MarkelleF and @TJMcConnell, who have both done well. #Sixers lead 63-52 at the half.

With @BenSimmons25 out, huge opportunity for @MarkelleF at the point in the second half.

Interesting to watch Markelle Fultz run point with Ben Simmons out for the remainder of the game. You could tell immediately that Fultz is more comfortable with the ball in his hands.

Despite the early deficit, the 76ers rallied by the end of the first quarter to be down by 32-30, and took out a squeaker 116-115 with Joel Embiid scoring 32 points and JJ Redick contributing 31 including eight three-pointers.
