NFL star suspended after hitting coach in head while ‘swinging at’ player

The Buffalo Bills will be without Bobby Hart for one game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday after the star was banned for hitting an opposition coach.

On Monday, the offensive tackler helped his team go 2-0 for the NFL season as they hammered the Tenessee Titans 41-7 at the Highmark Stadium in New York. The result reaffirmed the views of many pundits and fans that the Bill are among the favourites to make it to Super Bowl LVII next year.

But their big night was marred by a post-game fracas which culminated in Hart, 28, being accused of taking a swing at a Titans player only to strike an opposition coach instead. A letter from NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan confirmed the sanction.

“As both teams were heading to the tunnel, you walked directly across the field to seek out your opponent," wrote Runyan. "You approached him near the end zone and a coach had to hold you back as others shook hands.

"Once you and your opponent were in the end zone near the tunnel, you confronted him and immediately swung at him with a closed fist, striking the head of a Tennessee coach. Your aggressive conduct could have caused serious injury and clearly does not reflect the high standards of sportsmanship expected of a professional.”

According to multiple reports, Hart will appeal the suspension, which would be heard by an officer jointly agreed upon by the NFL and NFLPA. Neither the player, the Bills nor the Titans have publicly addressed the incident as of yet.

The saga is the latest unsavoury story to come from the NFL, with police investigating an allegation that Arizona Cardinals player Kyler Murray was struck by a fan after his side beat the Las Vegas Raiders.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans and New Orleans Saints defensive back Marshon Lattimore were also ejected for fighting during the Bucs' 20-10 win on Sunday night.
