Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Zach Plesac was sent home by the team for breaking COVID-19 protocols while on the road, according to multiple reports.
According to The Athletic, Plesac left the team hotel to go out with friends Saturday night in Chicago following his start against the White Sox.
Among the updated protocols from MLB this past week — sent in a memo that was obtained by USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale — it is stated that: "Any player or staff member must notify their compliance officer if they intend to leave the hotel on the road. The officer will decide whether their planned trip outside the hotel complies with the manual and the club’s code of conduct."
Plesac was reportedly isolated from his Indians teammates and the rest of the team's traveling party, according to The Athletic.
