MLB minor league affiliates: Full list of baseball’s farm system teams for 2020

While the landscape of minor league baseball will be permanently altered by this winter's downsizing by Major League Baseball – resulting in more than 40 franchises losing big league affiliation – change has always been a permanent fixture on the farm. 

Teams swap affiliations like so many trading cards, resulting in a handful of long-running partnerships but even more churn. For now, though, we know this much: All 30 major league teams will have four full-season minor-league affiliates, one or two fewer than before, and the dance card is set once minor league clubs agree to terms of player development licenses issued Dec. 9. Major league clubs also will host minor-league teams at spring training complexes in Arizona and Florida and in the Dominican Republic.

So how does the terrain look now? Here's a look at all 30 teams' affiliations – one each at Class AAA, AA, high and low A – and what's changed: 

American League

Baltimore Orioles: AAA Norfolk (Virginia); AA Bowie (Maryland); high-A Aberdeen (Maryland, up from short-season A); low-A Delmarva (Maryland). Out: High-A Frederick (Maryland, to MLB Draft League). 

Boston Red Sox: AAA Worcester (Massachusetts, relocated from Pawtucket, Rhode Island); AA Portland (Maine); high-A Greenville (South Carolina, up from low A); low-A Salem (Virginia, down from high-A). Out: Short-season Lowell (Massachusetts). 

Chicago White Sox: AAA Charlotte; AA Birmingham (Alabama); high-A Winston-Salem (North Carolina); low-A Kannapolis (North Carolina). Out: Rookie Great Falls (Montana, to independent league).

Cleveland Indians: AAA Columbus (Ohio); AA Akron (Ohio); high-A Lake County (Ohio, up from low-A); low-A Lynchburg (Virginia, down from high-A). Out: low-A Mahoning Valley (Ohio, to MLB Draft League).

Detroit Tigers: AAA Toledo (Ohio); AA Erie (Pa.); high-A West Michigan (up from low-A); low-A Lakeland (Florida, down from high-A). Out: Short-season (Norwich) Connecticut.

Houston Astros: AAA Sugar Land (Texas, from independent league); AA Corpus Christi (Texas); high-A Asheville (North Carolina); low-A Fayetteville (North Carolina, down from low-A). Out: AAA Round Rock (Texas, to Rangers AAA); low-A Quad Cities (Iowa, to Royals high-A); short-season Tri-City (New York).

Kansas City Royals: AAA Omaha; AA Northwest Arkansas; high-A Quad Cities (Iowa); low-A Columbia (South Carolina). Out: High-A Wilmington (Delaware, to Nationals high A); low-A Lexington (Kentucky); rookie Burlington (North Carolina, to collegiate wood bat league); rookie Idaho Falls (to independent league). 

Los Angeles Angels: AAA Salt Lake City; AA Rocket City (Alabama); high-A Tri-City (Washington); low-A Inland Empire (California, down from high-A). Out: Low-A Burlington (Iowa); rookie Orem (Utah, to independent league).

Minnesota Twins: AAA St. Paul (Minnesota, from independent league); AA Wichita (Kansas, from AAA); high-A Cedar Rapids (Iowa, from low-A); low-A Fort Myers (Florida, from high-A). Out: AA Pensacola (to Marlins AA); rookie Elizabethton (Tennessee, to collegiate wood bat league).

Toronto Blue Jays: AAA Buffalo; AA New Hampshire; high-A Vancouver (British Columbia, up from low A); low-A Dunedin (Florida, down from high-A). Out: Low-A Lansing (Michigan, to Oakland high-A); rookie Bluefield (West Virginia, to collegiate wood bat league).
