YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul has admitted he ignored his coach’s advice to land his devastating knockout blow on Ben Askren at the weekend.

The 24-year-old, now 3-0 in his professional career in the ring, secured his triumph over former UFC fighter Askren just one minute and 59 seconds into the first round.

Paul pieced together a formidable array of strikes to send his opponent crashing to the canvas – and revealed that he had disregarded the shouts from his corner after sensing Askren’s weakness.

‘I set him up for sure,’ Paul said at the post-fight press conference. ‘I was going to the body the whole fight. I was barely hitting him. 

‘My check hook was f*****g him up. I was setting him up the whole time. I was saving the right hand for that moment. I knew he wouldn’t see it coming.

‘My coach in the corner was like “don’t load up, don’t load up!” That’s what he told me the whole camp – don’t load up, don’t load up!

‘But I was like this guy is a joker. I’m loading up right now coach, sorry.’

It was a strong left jab from Paul that visibly rocked Askren, before a vicious right-hander saw the former seal his third straight knockout win. 

Despite Askren attempting to continue, the fight was waved off by the referee. 

Reflecting on his defeat, the retired UFC man admitted he ‘let the world down’ due to the humiliating manner of his downfall.

Askren was savaged after being seen smiling and laughing with his wife in the bout’s aftermath

Askren was tipped as the favourite heading into the bout – and has since been accused of ‘laughing to the bank’ due to his reported $500,000 (£360,782) pay day despite his defeat.

‘I got knocked out by Jake Paul – it’s f*****g embarrassing,’ Askren said.

‘I didn’t let the MMA community down, I let the world down. People f*****g hate Jake Paul, and they wanted me to make him miserable.’

But the typically bullish Paul, who has made a name for himself as a popular online personality, insisted he always believed his fight against Askren would prove easier that his showdown with former basketball player Nate Robinson.

Paul added: ‘I mean I said it the whole time. I said this fight’s going to be easier than Nate Robinson. No one believed me as usual. 

‘At one point I was the underdog as the betting favourite, I’m not going to let y’all forget that. I was the underdog. That sounds crazy but I was the underdog.’
