One game remains to conclude one of the most tumultuous college basketball seasons in recent memory.
There’s no denying the COVID-19 pandemic wrought havoc over the last calendar year, one that saw the abrupt cancellation of the 2020 tournament and several postponed or canceled games the season after. It has even affected the 2021 tournament, forcing VCU to go home without so much as a game under its belt.
And yet, at the end of it all, we have a matchup between what are considered the best two teams in college basketball: No. 1 Gonzaga out of the West, 31-0, and No. 1 Baylor out of the South, 27-2. Ironically, this is a matchup college basketball fans were supposed to see earlier in the season; naturally, it was canceled because of COVID-19.
Better late than never, yes?
Regardless, you couldn’t have asked for a better end to the season. Both Mark Few’s Bulldogs and Scott Drew’s Bears are looking for their respective programs’ first ever NCAA Tournament championship. Both have been the clear best team on the floor throughout March Madness — barring a Final Four gauntlet between Gonzaga and UCLA — meaning something has to give come Monday.
These teams have a combined five players represented among Sporting News’ 2020-21 first-, second- and third-team All-Americans, including such NCAA Tournament stalwarts as Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, Jalen Suggs, Corey Kispert and Baylor’s Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell.
That said, only one team can claim eternal March Madness glory. Here’s everything you need to know about the final game of the season:
What time does the NCAA Tournament championship start?
Tipoff for the national title game Gonzaga and Baylor is 9:20 p.m. ET on Monday, April 5.
What channel is the Final Four on?
CBS will broadcast the national title game in 2021. Cord-cutters can watch the game online with NCAA March Madness Live, Paramount+ and fuboTV, which offers a seven-day free trial.

Where is the NCAA Tournament championship in 2021?
Lucas Oil Stadium is the host venue for the Final Four and national title game in 2021 — the third time since 2010. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2021 NCAA Tournament to be played entirely in the state of Indiana, meaning it also hosted games as early as the first round of the tournament.
Who won the national championship in 2020?
No one. The tournament was canceled outright because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last teams to play in the national title game were Virginia (South 1 seed) and Texas Tech (West 3 seed) in 2019. The Cavaliers beat the Red Raiders 85-77 in overtime — not without controversy — to win the program’s first-ever national title. Below is a full rundown of each of the previous national title winners:
