‘Unbelievable’: Cult hero stuns the BBL

Brisbane Heat spin bowler Mujeeb Ur Rahman has set the Big Bash League alight with a stunning bowling display against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday evening.

The 19-year-old tweaker claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in the T20 format to help restrict the Hurricanes to 150.

After removing Ben McDermott with his first delivery of the match, Mujeeb rattled the stumps of England powerhouse Dawid Malan, who is the world’s No. 1 ranked T20 batsman.

The Afghanistan international then claimed three wickets in four balls to finish with 5/15, the best figures for a Heat player in BBL history.

It also ranks as the fourth best bowling figures in 10 seasons of Big Bash cricket.

Mujeeb currently sits at No. 2 on the ICC T20I bowling rankings, and the Afghan phenom proved why at the Gabba.

The Hurricanes batsmen were utterly baffled by Mujeeb’s googly, with the mystery delivery accounting for most of his dismissals on Wednesday.

“The bag of tricks are on display,” Fox Cricket commentator Mark Howard said.

“What a spell … unbelievable performance.”

Former Australian batsman Michael Hussey agreed: “We said in the pre-show that the Heat just needed a little bit more from Mujeeb, and wow, hasn’t he delivered tonight.”

That's the first five-wicket haul of Mujeeb's T20 career. Daresay it won't be the last #BBL10
