England made a late breakthrough in the morning session as they pursue a series-levelling victory over India in the third Test at Headingley.

Jonny Bairstow took a magnificent catch at second slip off the final ball of the session to send KL Rahul back to the pavilion for 8 off the bowling of Craig Overton.

India headed in for lunch on 34-1, with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 25 and the visitors 320 runs behind.

Craig Overton celebrates dismissing KL Rahul on the last ball of the morning session

Hosts England had earlier been dismissed for 432, with Overton providing a little bit of late resistant with a battling 32.

For all of England’s dominance, 432 is a figure that may appear a touch below-par with Joe Root’s side on 350-3 at one point on day two.

But the dismissal of Rahul before lunch means they are very much in command and India No 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been in poor form throughout the series, will have it all to do alongside Sharma in the second session of the day.
