WWE duo talked out of quitting after Vince McMahon’s latest action

Kofi Kingston had to talk fellow New Day members Big E and Xavier Woods out of quitting WWE after Vince McMahon's latest actions on SmackDown Live.

Kingston ran a five-man gauntlet on Tuesday night, to seemingly book his spot against WWE champion Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 in New York next month.

But as New Day celebrated, McMahon again moved the goalposts, declaring that Kingston – who had been fighting for over an hour – had to defeat Bryan to earn his spot.

The WWE champ subsequently made light work of Kingston, wrecking his hopes and leaving New Day furious in the backstage area.

Filmed in the locker room, their displeasure was laid bare.

"Honestly, I'm not even surprised. I'm not even surprised. Of course Vince brought somebody else to fight you because there was never any chance for you to actually win," said Woods.

"It doesn't matter. Beat five, they bring out another five," added Big E. "Beat those 10, they bring out another five.

"Every time you get a shot, there's hurdle after hurdle after hurdle," continued Woods. "You put your life on the line, you put your body on the line, you put everything on the line for 11 years."

That prompted Big E to ask why they remain with the company, and Woods responded that they should walk out.

"There's no reason," he said. "There's absolutely no reason that should happen. So, as a matter of fact, I think we should quit, honestly. If I'm being honest, I think we should quit."

Big E agreed and declared: "We've done everything we can here, everything we can. Vince McMahon showed it himself, that's as high as you're going to get. That's it.

"And it's not you, it's not you because you showed everything. You showed how good you are on a weekly basis. This last month, for 11 years, you showed it every night. And this is it."

But Kingston refused to budge and told his fellow New Day members to remain.

"If we quit then Vince wins, then Daniel Bryan wins. We can't quit, not like this. I know emotions are high, emotions are running high right now. I think we just need to take some time and figure it out."

Kingston would take to Twitter also to declare: "I am physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. I want to thank everyone of you wholeheartedly for all of your support."

The question now is what happens on SmackDown Live next week?

As WWE edges ever closer to WrestleMania 35, it's champion, Daniel Bryan, is so far still without an opponent.

Fans want Kingston to be that man – but McMahon is determined not to let someone he's labelled a "B+ player" get the shot on the grandest stage of them all.
