Sebastien Haller ‘discussing West Ham contract’ amid £35m move – Frankfurt hunting new No9

Manuel Pellegrini looks set to land his back-up option to Maxi Gomez after failing to sign the Uruguay international.

Gomez is on the verge of being announced as a Valencia player as he prioritised Champions League football and staying in Spain.

West Ham subsequently had to begin looking elsewhere earlier this week when it became clear Gomez would not be joining.

Following the £22.5m sale of Marko Arnautovic to Shanghai SIPG last week – with the full fee being paid up front – Pellegrini still had money to spend.

Haller had been identified as the next best option, and given the Frenchman’s strong record in the Bundesliga, he could prove to be an ideal fit for the Hammers.

The 25-year-old scored 15 times and provided nine assists in just 29 appearances in Germany’s top flight last season.

The 6ft 2in tall striker has attracted interest from Manchester United as well but West Ham are closing in on his signature.

Hopes of luring the former Auxerre hitman to the London Stadium looked bleak at the beginning of the week.

But an agreement is claimed to have been reached between the two clubs for £35m, and Haller is willing to join.

L’Equipe add contract discussions have already begun and will continue today.

Pellegrini would no doubt love to have a deal for Haller snapped up by Sunday when West Ham are due to travel to China for the next leg of their pre-season tour.

And there are more signs pointing in the direction that West Ham will be successful in their striker hunt this time.

Frankfurt are said to be already in the process of recruiting a new No.9 to replace Haller.

Luka Jovic, Haller’s strike-partner last term, has already left Frankfurt for Real Madrid for £50m this summer.

And now Frankfurt have supposedly begun looking for a new frontman before Haller’s exit has even been confirmed.

A potential departure has been in the pipeline for some time, though, as Starsport understands West Ham’s first contact with Frankfurt was made weeks ago.
