The “Snub”

Ahead of the Browns vs. 49ers game on Monday night, Sherman claims Mayfield snubbed him in a pregame handshake during the coin toss. The alleged snub was a “topic of discussion among the Niners before, during and after the game,” according to NFL.com columnist Michael Silver.

“That’s some college s—,” Sherman told Silver. “It’s ridiculous. We’re all trying to get psyched up, but shaking hands with your opponent — that’s NFL etiquette. And when you pull bush league stuff, that’s disrespectful to the game. And believe me, that’s gonna get us fired up.”

The viral video

Videos of the alleged incident began circulating on Twitter Tuesday and appeared to disprove Sherman’s claim.

Including this video on the giant video screen at Levi’s Stadium.

Sherman’s clarification

After the videos went viral, Sherman took to Twitter to clarify his thoughts.

He explained that it was actually what happened after the coin toss that upset him.

Here’s the video of the moment Sherman is referencing:

After the game, Sherman said Mayfield’s handshake snub motivated the 49ers to defeat the Browns, 31-3.

“Respect the game,” Sherman said. “You can have rivals, but pay your respect in that moment — especially when you’re young.’’
