Oakland Raiders tipped to steal NFL play-off berth after late LA Chargers win

The Oakland Raiders have been tipped to seal an unlikely NFL play-off spot after their late win over the LA Chargers on Thursday night.

A touchdown by Joshua Jacobs with one minute remaining gave the Raiders a 26-24 victory over their AFC West rivals.

The victory didn’t come easy though after Daniel Carlson missed the extra point that gave the Chargers the chance to take over and win it with a field goal.

But Karl Joseph intercepted a fourth-down pass from Philip Rivers to seal it at the death.

Jon Gruden’s team are now 5-4 and with several kind fixtures to come on paper they will feel confident of sneaking into the post-season reckoning.

The Raiders have now won four of their last six games and still have to come up against the struggling Cincinnati Bengals, the New York Jets, and the Tennessee Titans in the next month.

Los Angeles (4-6) had won two games in a row but now faces an uphill battle to stay in play-off contention.

NFL expert Tony Gonzalez thinks the Raiders have a brilliant chance of making it to the play-offs looking at their remaining games.

“The Raiders have the third easiest schedule remaining and this team is good,” he said on Fox NFL.

“They have only lost to good teams so far and you look at Gruden and what he has been able to do out there.

“They are running the football really well, Josh Jacobs has had the most yards through anybody so far.

“Derek Carr has a 70 per cent completion rate too so I think watch out because the Raiders will make the play-offs.”
