England head into the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka looking to cement their promising start.

Joe Root’s side have a lead of 259 runs, having been dismissed for 285 on a pitch showing plenty of turn.

Jack Leach utilized it to his advantage in the final 12 overs of the first day, bowling Kaushal Silva to leave the hosts 26-1 at stumps.

‘We’ve got a nice score on the board and it was a great positive for Leachy to bowl a beautiful ball the rid of their opener in the evening,’ Sam Curran, who top scored for England with 64, said.

‘The next couple of days are going to be exciting for spin bowlers and batters are going to be on their toes.

‘Spinners are going to have a huge role and we’ve got three great spinners all bowling very nicely. 

‘We have a score we’re fairly happy about with the surface breaking up and cracks getting a bit bigger.’

Opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne resumes on 19 and Malinda Pushpakumara is on 1.
